Toy Deal of the Week: Funko Action Figue: DC Heroes Batman on Amazon
I've been slacking lately when it comes to toy collecting. Especially, with the '66 Batman side of things, but when I saw this Funko DC Heroes Batman on sale on Amazon, I jut had to pull the trigger on it.
If you haven't started your collection of Funko's '66 Batman toys or want to pick up an extra Batman, now is the time and a steal at $4.79. They were only 13 left as of the time of this post

Toy Review: Mattel - Batman Classic TV Series To The Batcave! Batman Action Figure And Accessories
To the Batcave! Batman action figure and accessories |
Just to be clear off the "Bat", the above caption is from the packaging of Mattel's latest Batman action figure and does not have direct correlation with my opinion of this toy. Or maybe it does. So, with out further adieu, To The Batcave!
Well, not really the Batcave, but another revamped version of Mattel's original Classic TV Series Batman action figure. It appears to basically be a repackaged Batman figure, which includes an interchangeable Adam West sculpted Bruce Wayne head, and is consistent with Mattel's typical style of repurposing it's figures.

Toy Review: Mattel - Batman Classic TV Series Batgirl Toys R Us/SDCC Exclusive Action Figure
Holy femininity! Mattel has finally made the Dynamic Duo into the Terrific Trio.
Mattel's 66' Batgirl SDCC Exclusive |
When comparing Figures Toy Company's production of '66 Batman action figures with Mattel's, the later has been definitely slacking. While Figures Toy Company has been regularly cranking out new characters from the beloved Batman TV Series, we have been lucky to get one figure a year from Mattel since toys based on the TV series had their initial release. Although new figures have been promised, toy collectors and Bat-Fans finally have their yearly fix fulfilled by Mattel with the addition of the Batgirl action figure as a San Diego Comic Con Exclusive.

Toys of Future Past: Toy Archive - Vintage Star Wars Barada Action Figure
Vintage POTF Barada was part of the "Last 17" |
Some collectors and Star Wars aficionados may not know this, but three of Jabba the Hutt's cronies were named after a phrase that would save the human race in the film 'The Day the Earth Stood Still' and in 1985 the trinity was completed with the addition of the Barada action figure being included in the original vintage The Power of the Force toy line.
After going large and scoring a vintage Yak Face, the quest to complete my run of loose vintage Star Wars action figures continues. When the Last 17 Star Wars action Figures were released I did have the option to choose from the entire wave, with exception of the aforementioned Yak Face, but I could not afford to purchase them all at the time. By the time I replenished my funds, the last wave was already vanishing from the shelves and I missed out.

Toys of Future Past: Toy Archive - Vintage Star Wars Yak Face Action Figure
Yak Face was the Last figure produced by Kenner |
Even though this action figure is considered to be one of the five rarest, I had no problem scoring one off of eBay. New batches of Yak Faces are posted weekly. So, if you are looking to add one to your collection, you should be able to easily do so, but be warned. Prices for a loose Yak Face with weapon accessory in good condition can run you anywhere from $230 - $ 300 as of this writing. Even with that price tag, Yak Face continues to be a well sought after Star Wars collectible, which warrants its higher than average prices. Whew! Imagine what a mint on card version runs.
Speaking of mint on card. This figure is the only figure from the entire Kenner Star Wars vintage line to be carded on a Canadian Power of The Force Card. Even though the figure was produced on a Canadian Card there apparently is no proof that it was ever sold in Canada. It was also produced for European markets on Tri-logo cards. Interestingly, it was never sold domestically in the United States, which helps add to the rarity.
Many vintage Star Wars action figures have minor variations, whether it be the size of Han Solo's head or the color of Luke Skywalker's hair, but the vintage Yak Face action figure has no known major variations. The figure typically came with a Skiff Guard Battle Staff , but the Tri-logo version can be found with anything from Palace Blasters, Bespin Blasters, or no weapon or accessory at all.
Like many collectors it would be years before I would find out about this figures existence. However, I couldn't be more pleased to now have it as part of my collection and to be one of the first figures I went for to complete my loose vintage figures. My motto with collecting is now, "Go big, Or go home!"
With that said, does anyone have a carded version for sale?

Toy Review: Mattel - Classic Batman TV Series Catwoman Action Figure
Meow! Mattel saved this feline felon for last, but not least of it's first round of Classic Batman TV Series toys.
The last release for this line, until Mattel's recent release of the Surf's Up! Joker figure, is molded in the likeness of the best known Catwoman of them all, Julie Newmar.
Early production memos between executive producer, William Dozier, and head script consultant, Lorenzo Semple Jr., reveals that the producers originally had Suzanne Pleashette in mind for Catwoman. Not sure what happened there, but Julie ultimately got the job.
Julie describes when she was offered the part:
I had lived in New York at the time on Beekman Place. I remember it was a weekend, Friday or Saturday, and my brother had come down from Harvard with five or six of his friends, and we were all sitting around on the sofa, just chatting away, when the phone rang. I got up and answered it, and it was this agent or someone in Hollywood, who said, 'Miss Newmar, would you like to play the Catwoman on the "Batman" series? They are casting it out here.' I was insulted because he said, 'it starts Monday.' I said, 'What is this?' That's how television is done: they never know what they are doing until yesterday. My brother leapt off the sofa. I mean he physically levitated and said, 'Batman! That's the favorite show at Harvard. We all quit our classes and quit our studies and run into the TV room and watch this show.' I said, 'They want me to play Catwoman.' he said, 'Do it!' So, I said, 'OK, I'll do it.'"
This cunning cat is always top dog! Catwoman is the most purrsistent cat burglar in Gotham City - with the purrfect crime to get Batman in her claws before her afternoon cat nap, conniving and clever, she develops her evil plans in her cat lair, with a terrible trio of tabby thugs in tow. Isn't she just the cat's meow?!
Early previews of this figure revealed photos of her with a mask, but disappointedly, the final product does not come with one. Probably a cost cutting tactic or Mattel felt they would be lost, but the fact these figures are primarily for adult collectors makes me think Mattel was just being cheap. Mego perpetrated a similar scheme with their Removable Cowl Batman and Removable Mask Robin. Craaack!
Over all, like the rest of line, I am pretty satisfied with the line overall, but I really wish Mattel had the momentum with this line as Figures Toy Company does with their '66 Batman 8 inch figures. Come on Mattel, have a heart will ya. Give us more!

More Mattel Classic Batman TV Series Action Figures and Toys To Come
Mattel's Classic Batman TV series toy line wave I |
I was skeptical about Mattel pulling the plug on their Classic Batman toy line since I was never able to find any official announcement from Mattel. I had either read it on other toy or Batman forums or people were commenting or emailing the Batcave Toy Room with the news, but a new bat signal is shining bright over all the Desmond Doomsday voiceovers.

5 Must Have Classic Batman TV Series Toys
The well is running dry for the classic Batman TV series toys that I wanted to pick up this year, but there are a few more coming down the pike that I am looking to buy.
We've already seen the Batman and Robin 2-pack, Batusi Batman, Batmobile, and the first wave trio of Batman, The Riddler, and The Penguin. Fear not citizens! The Joker and Surf's up! Batman will coming shortly, but in the meantime, here's a few more items I am still looking forward too.

Toy Review: Mattel 1966 Batman and Robin 2 Pack
Mattel 1966 Batman and Robin action figure 2-pack |
Actually, I think most Batman Fans and Toy Collectors have been. I like to think of these figures as vintage and have been lost since 1966 only to be found 47 years later.
There are many more Batman TV series figures rolling out this August, but first up is this Batman Classics 1966 TV Moments Action Figure 2-Pack, which includes both Batman and Robin.

Bring Back Star Wars Action Figures
This weeks assignment from the League of Extraordinary Bloggers asks:
Bring it back! What product or media property would you like to see revived, and how would you imagine it being different today?
There was a time I wanted Battlestar Galactica to be brought back totally re-imagined and I wrote a story treatment and a first draft to a script and then just dropped the idea. Ironically, twenty some odd years later it happened for real and was redone amazingly by Ronald Moore with many of the same ideas I had for a reboot.
