Amazing Las Vegas Comic Returns to The South Point June 19-21, 2015

The Amazing Las Vegas Comic Con is returning for it's Junior appearance to the South Point Hotel and Casino this June. Like it's Freshman and Sophomore years before, AVLCC is coming back to the Las Vegas Strip to entertain fans with the latest and greatest from the world of comics.

“We have packed this year’s convention with even more creative and exciting programming, and know it will be an unforgettable event,” said Jimmy Jay, co-owner of Jay Company Comics and promoter of Amazing Las Vegas Comic Con. “We are thrilled to bring the ‘architects of pop culture’ together, which means that fans will be able to meet the creators of their favorite comics-turned-movie blockbusters in one weekend.”

This month has been a bit of a milestone for Batman '66 fans, not only with the release of the Batman television series on Blu Ray and DVD, but with the long rumored lost manuscript titled "The Two Way Crimes of Two-Face" for an unproduced episode being told in comic book form.

If you've attempted to get tickets the San Diego Comic Con over the past few years, it's darn near impossible for the average Geek, Cosplayer, Comic Book Enthusiast, and Toy Collectors to get tickets. But fear not citizens...Help is here!

After last years smashing success, Amazing Las Vegas Comic Con returns for a second year and is bigger than ever. Last years appearances by Stan Lee and Jim Lee left fans wanting more.

The Las Vegas Comic Con has once again put together an All Star Line-Up which once again includes Jim Lee (Batman, Superman, and Justice League) as well as, Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld, George Perez (The Avengers, Teen Titans, and Wonder Woman), Adam Kubert (Ultimate X-Men, The Incredible Hulk, Wolverine), Captain America: Winter Soldier creator Steve Epting, Eisner Award winner Jae Lee and Dozens More.

Even After 75 Years Superman Is Still Superman

I love this Zack Snyder animated short for the 75th Anniversary of Superman.

This sweet short starts with the Man of Steel's beginnings in Action Comic #1 and reveals his is ever evolving abilities of being faster than speeding bullet and going from leaping tall buildings in a single bound to his ability to fly.

The film also accounts for the different actors and musical scores that have defined him in media, but also shares moments in time with Andy Warhol and the iconic Mohammed Ali vs. Superman giant comic book. One of my favorite moments was the glimpse of the Atari 2600 game that I had played for countless hours in my youth.

Let this short be a reminder that you should always be yourself first, but continue to strive to progress and expand or evolve on the mold that is already there.

Year after year I have been unable to get tickets to the San Diego Comic-Con.

Each year I sign on to multiple computers, as do my friends, and attempt to buy badges to gain us access to the largest and entertainment of the year only to have the Online box office slammed shut in our faces as we get to the front of the line. However, there are alternatives to SDCC.

The Toy Room is finally in order, but this Father's Day Weekend I am taking the time to have an ultimate Geekfest. Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 2 was released last week on January 29, 2013, but if you haven't picked up your copy yet, here's your chance to win a copy from the Batcave Toy Room.

I loved this Frank Miller classic since it was published back in 1986 and I think it is super cool to be able to watch it in an animated format. Michael Uslan, the executive producer of the Batman films since 1989, has recently stated one of his dream Batman projects would be a live action version of The Dark Knight Returns starring Michael Keaton as Batman and Jack Nicholson as The Joker and I for one am all for it. Even the though The Joker was killed at the end of the 1989 movie I would still love to see that happen.

So, how do you win a Blu Ray copy of Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 2? I tend to use the phrase "Fangasmic" from time to time in my posts and in order to enter you need to leave a comment of where you think I picked that phrase up from. Star Wars Collection for Sale at a Steal

Recently we saw Rancho Obi-Wan sell a complete set of Star Wars action figures at auction for $11,5000, which leaves it up for debate of whether or not the figures were worth the price they sold for, but hey, it was for charity. However, look at what you could get for three times as much.

Yes, I am a Bat-god and I had nothing but an amazing time at the Las Vegas Comic Expo. After being let down two years in a row now by not being able to get tickets for Comic-Con this was a great alternative.

I had the most awesome of Geek times at the Las Vegas Comic Expo this past weekend. I had hoped to have posted more on this event days ago, but as usual, it's either fast or famine with me. However, here's a taste of what went on at the LVCE.

Marvel or DC?

My nephews, like me, love everything Super Hero related and my oldest daughter is getting to be right up there with the boys. I still think the love this stuff is in the genes. Like me, my 7 year old nephew, River, is an equal opportunity comic book super hero fan and proudly wanted to share this with me and I thought I would share it with you. Did You Get Your Free Comic Book Today?

I did. Why? Today is National Free Comic Book day. So run down to your local comic book store and get yours today. I visited my favorite comic store, MaximuM Comics, where they always make mine MaximuM. Store owner Jay Bosworth, is living my dream and owns not one, but two stores in the Las Vegas area. A rare feet for comic book stores, having two successful locations in the same town.

I was able to select three comics on the house and I decided on a Star Wars issue, a Justice League, and The Avengers. Not to be forgot, Cinco de Mayo, the other holiday celebrated today, Jay gave out free tacos to celebrate that day as well. There were plenty of Cosplayers there too. Stormtroopers, Jedi's, Jango Fett's, and more. Oh, my!

So free comics and free lunch. How could the day be any better? Oh, wait. it does get better. I am going to see The Avengers tonight. Why can't everyday be like today?

New Editions to The Batcave Toy Room: My Christmas Haul

I can't believe 2011 has come and gone. The year 2012 is here and according to the Mayan Calendar the world ends on December 21 this year. So, in that case, it's time to get things in gear. So many toys, so little time.

Here's a look at a few comic book and super hero related items my friends and family picked up for me this past Christmas. First up, Captain America: The First Avenger: U.S. Agent action figure.

Supporting a Great Event: The Steampunk Cause-Play Couture 2011

Last Saturday I attended the super cool Cosplay for a Cause, which showcased the work of 11 designers, three body painters, seven makeup artists and hair stylists and 20 models. The show was spearheaded and co-created by fellow cosplayer and leader of my local chapter of the Justice League of Las Vegas, Brieanna Brock.

The charity event benefited The Center Las Vegas & Spread the Word Nevada  and the theme of the event was Steampunk versions of comic book characters. Steampunk involves a setting where steam power is still widely used. Usually, Victorian era Britain, that incorporates elements of either science fiction or fantasy. Brieanna and her gang intend to make this an annual event. I can't wait until next year. Below you can see some of my favorite costumes from the 1st annual event.

I think it is so awesome that fellow comic book lovers are not only able to show case their creative costuming skills, but can turn around and truly do good in the world by donating their time and giving back to their communities. True Super Heroes in ever sense. Way to go ladies!

Detective Comics #1 on Sale Now! It's Fangasmic!

Vintage Super Power Batman with Detective Comics #1 Re-boot

I picked up the re-booted Detective Comics first issue that went on sale today and it is fangasmic. The new issue was written and drawn by Tony Salvador Daniel and feels and reads like a typical Batman story. However, in the story it seems Commissioner Gordon has a relationship with The Dark Knight, but the police don't. Trying to take him out at one point. The story involves The Joker, who better to start out the re-boot, and has an ending reminiscent of Hannibal Lecter. Can't wait to see more.

My Green Lantern Movie Haul and Review

Last week my very cool, but non-geek wife, scored me tickets to the advanced screening of the new Green Lantern Movie and I was more than ecstatic. Finally, Warner Bros. was getting the rest of JLA on the big screen with my hopes of more to come. I am more of a DC guy than a Marvel, but Marvel has been doing an awesome job of bringing their characters to life and most of all, getting them all together for the epic The Avengers out next year.

I was actually lucky enough to score 4 tickets and took my closest comic book/toy collector friends. My wife scored me a t-shirt and cool Kilowog poster when she picked up the tickets, but while at the theatre we were presented with free Green Lantern special edition comic books and pins. Courtesy of my favorite local comic book store MaximuM Comics, who has two stores in the Las Vegas area and is working on opening a third.

Now the bad news, I have been nervous about The Emerald Warrior's movie debut since the release of the first trailer. So, were others and Warner Bros. countered any negative comments with "Part of the reason the response to the first trailer was lukewarm was that the big-scale sequences weren't ready to show, and we suffered for it. We can't afford to do that again." Yes, the the CG effects were great and I at one point was thinking, "Man I wonder what it cost to fly everyone out to the the Lost Sector." As for the rest, I do like Ryan Reynolds as an actor, but I am not quite sure if The Green Lantern was the right fit for him. At one point he was attached to The Flash and I think that might have been a better vehicle for him and I was alright with him as Deadpool too. As for the script it seemed like it was a first draft. Even though it had four writers and two of which wrote for comic books.

The script covered all the bases, but had so much to deal with, origins and villains, the editing was very quick cut to keep the story moving and get it all in. Blake Lively did OK as Carol Ferris and we may get to see her as Star Sapphire if there is a sequel, but the love story between her and Hal Jordan was non-existent in my opinion. I really felt nothing for these two.

Peter Sarsgaard was great as Hector Hammond and wish we could have seen more of him. Having to deal with Parallax and Hammond was too much for me. I am generally not a fan of two villains teaming up in a movie, as I think so many of these villains are fabulous and deserve the heroes sole attention.

Green Lantern is at least worth seeing and I do recommend you judge for yourself, but for $300 million, I expected more. You were descent on your maiden voyage Mr. Lantern, but you are certainly no Dark Knight.
