Who Moved My DC Comic Book Heroes?

There has been some stirrings going on in comic fans utility belts lately since DC Comics announcement of the revamping of their super hero characters. Some favorable and some not. This announcement and pending change to our beloved heroes has reminded me of the book "Who Moved My Cheese." If you find yourself dismayed by the whole thing remember these points from the book.

Change Happens - They keep moving the cheese. Hey, forty years ago, Batman moved from the Batcave below Wayne Manor to the Batcave under the Wayne Foundation building and back to the Wayne Manor Batcave. A change of scenery and a new pad is cool.
Anticipate Change - Get ready for the cheese to move. Remember this has all happened before and it will happen again. Don't get attached.
Monitor Change - Smell the cheese often so you know when it is getting old. Aren't you excited to see what changes are in store for your favorite super hero.
Adapt to Change Quickly - The sooner you let go of the old cheese, the sooner you can enjoy new cheese. This isn't an April Fool's prank people. This is going to happen. So, the sooner you get over it the better. Think of all the new adventures. It worked for the J.J. Abrams new series of Star Trek movies.
Change - Move with the cheese. Go with the flow. Are you really going to give on your beloved comic book series?
Enjoy Change! - Savor the adventure and taste the new cheese! You may like what's happening with a whole new character.
Be Ready to Quickly Change Again and Again - They keep moving the cheese. Refer back to point #2. Writers move on, Illustrator do too. It's bound to happen eventually. Be like The Flash and just run with it.

I am excited to see what happens to DC's line of heroes. Aren't you? Just think of all newly designed toys.

Captain Cold: 3rd Wave Retro-Action DC Super Heroes

Unlike my fellow bloggers at Toyriffic and Super Duper Toy Box, who went on a toy buying fast in February, I had actually picked up a few new acquisitions. Mainly, picking up the next three action figures from the 3rd wave of the Retro-Action DC Super Heroes that I needed. I picked up The Flash in January and of course if I have The Flash, I had to have Captain Cold. In reality, I had to have all the figures from the series, but you get the point.

I always loved DC's cold hearted villains Mr. Freeze and Captain Cold. For some reason I had an extreme interest in devilish instant freeze solutions as a kid and would have loved to at least own of the characters as an action figure. Mego had planned to produce a Mr. Freeze action figure as part of The World's Greatest Super Heroes line, but never did. At least now I have a Captain Cold.

Captain Cold is usually best remembered from the The Challenge of The Super Friends, which in the series he was portrayed as having a blue skin tone. However, he has a normal flesh toned skin color and the figure is more accurate to the characters actual comic book appearance.

Captain Cold comes with a removable freeze gun, blue snow suit, and detailed white boots. Mego used to use the same style boots molded in different colors, but Mattel has gone all out and given the characters specific molds to fit each character.

The rear of the blister card has the character depictions of the other characters in the 3rd wave. All in all I think this is one of the most detailed figures Mattel has put together for this the Retro-Action line and hope there is more like this to come.

The Flash: 3rd Wave Retro-Action DC Super Heroes

The third wave of Mattel's Retro-Action DC Super Heroes has been released and I have jumped all over it. The first up for me with this wave is The Flash.

Mattel continues with the Mego like line of action figures with a figure that Mego had planned, but never produced. The Flash looks ultra cool and very much looking like what I think he would have if Mego themselves had actually produced this character.

The Flash has a nice head sculpt and captures the characters personality.

Body suit is very much like the standard Mego issued body suit used for the majority of the action figures in the vintage line. Like the blister cards for "wave 1", where we got a sneak peek at Batman for "Wave 2", we get a sneak peek at Shazam for "Wave 4".

Nice detailed boots. Had Mego produced the figure he probably would have been given the same boots that were used for the vintage Shazam. Mego was famous for recycling the same parts for multiple figures.

All in all I like this newly acquired addition to the family and helps fill the gap on what could have been with the original WGSH line.

The Music of DC Comics: 75th Anniversary Collection

My wife picked up a copy of "The Music of DC Comics: 75th Anniversary Collection" a couple of weeks off of Amazon for me and I have been enjoying it ever since. The CD includes 31 theme songs from DC's long line of comic book characters TV series and movies. This just isn't a bunch of re-done instrumental versions. These are the actual themes we all love from the TV series and movies. This is one of the best mixes of Super Hero themes I have heard in a long time. I love it so much I think it should have been a 2 disc CD. Wish The Challenge of the Super Friends, The Flash TV series, The New Adventures of Batman, and to many others to mention were part of this collection too. I put together a a semi sample of the CD below using the best copies a could find. Take a listen and hear for yourself this fine collection of music.
