Guy Gardner Green Lantern Matty Collector Retro-Action DC Super Hereos Exclusive # 2

The postman cameth and as promised here are pics of my Guy Gardener. The second release of Matty Collector's exclusive Green Lantern Retro-Action DC Super Heroes.

As usual the Matty Collector exclusive action figure came in an exclusive (no pun intended) special box with the characters name stenciled on the front.

Next to my Captain Cold this runner up to Hal Jordan is probably one of my favorites in terms to the details of the figure.

The figure is comic book accurate from leather jacket, belt and right down to his boots.

Look at that smirk. Even a vintage Mego Mr. Mxyzptlk would be jealous.

Guy Gardner also includes a power battery, which is the same mold found with the original Green Lantern from wave I and Sinestro figures.

I love being able to buy directly from Matty Collector, but I have a couple of issues which seems to be a problem with the exclusive packages these figures come in. Although, I didn't have this problem with Sinestro in Sinestro Corp outfit, I did have a problem with creasing and bending of the blister cards of both my Green Arrow and Guy Gardner.

I do have several examples of loose toys, but once I have them mint in box, I tend to like to keep them way. The exclusive boxes seem to be a little to tight and possibly the care in which figures is placed in the box is lax. With the cost of the shipping what it is, it makes this to be a little bit of an expensive collectible to not come in a mint box. It does leave me a little perturbed, but over all the figure is awesome and is a welcome addition to the collection.

Retro-Action DC Super Heroes on Blister Cards

I have not seen them hit the store shelves yet, but here's a look at the new Retro Action DC Super Heroes on their blister cards. Other than Green Arrow I've pretty much only seen them in a loose format.

Take a look at: Superman, Lex Luthor, Green Lantern, and Sinestro.









Man, I need to get these. I probably need to give one away in a contest or something. What do you think?

Help I Need a Definition! This Looks Like a Job For The Super Dictionary.

Here is another look at the First and Second waves of Mattel's new Super Hero action figure line with photos from ToyArk.com.

I just think these guys are the best thing since sliced bread. It's like Mego is still in business and producing these figures. Almost like they made production changes and finally expanded the line.

The Green Arrow has already been released. The first wave is coming in April and will consist of:

Superman
Lex Luthor
Green Lantern
Sinestro

The second wave will include:

RC Batman
Two-Face
Aquaman
Black Manta

Who will the third wave consist of? The Flash, Robin, Captain Cold? More, more, more.

Smallville: Absolute Justice Airs This Friday February 5

I loved when Smallville has introduced other DC Comic characters on the show. Everyone from Green Arrow, Black Canary, Aquaman, Impulse, Cyborg, Zatanna and members of the Legion of Super-Heroes.

This weeks episode "Absolute Justice" is not only a two hour episode, but we get to see many members of the Justice Society. Not only do we get to see Hawkman, Stargirl and Dr. Fate, we get to see them in the costumes we love from the comics.

To take a line from Superman II, "Man, this is going to be good."

Toy Review: Mattel - Retro-Action DC Super Heroes: Green Arrow

Christmas 2009 was a little like Christmas 1975 for me as for both years a received a Green Arrow. In 1975 I received both a Mego Green Arrow and Aquaman that Christmas, but in 2009 I once again felt the joy I had 35 years ago.


Above you can see Mego Green Arrow and Aquaman in window boxes. In 1975 Mego still sold them in boxes, aside from Kresge blister cards.


Having originally anticipated being able to order the new Retro-Action Green Arrow on December 15, a release date change had squashed that plan. I had to wait a whole week until December 23 to place the order.


To my surprise when I got home from the office Christmas Eve Day I had a package at my front door. It was my Green Arrow! It was only a day later. I didn't I choose express shipping, but nevertheless, there it was.


Green Arrow was delivered in a white box with the Retro-Action DC Super Hero logo printed on it and identifying it as a Green Arrow figure. The packaging is nice, but the blister card was not as crisp and a little flimsy. Not quite was I would expect from Matty Collector, but the card evened out after a while.


A few differences separate the vintage from the new. The vintage had painted black pupils, as all Mego's did, but the new version has solid white eyes, which gives more of a comic book feel.


The original vintage boxes revealed only the packaged characters on the back, but other figures in the series could be seen on the side panels.


The new blister card is reminiscent to the later issue Mego blister cards with other available characters visible on the back. The backs of these blister cards only show the first wave of available figures. I think it would have been cool to see what Mattel has in mind for the other two waves they plan to release.


The front of the blister card is designed similar to the original Mego cards with characters being shown on the front as well, but are the same characters from the back with the exception of Batman, which gives a sneak peek that the Dark Knight will be included in a future wave. It's fun to guess what the new version of Batman will be like. Removable cowl or painted mask. Oven mitt gloves or actual functional hands. My guess is it will have removable cowl and functional hands.



Overall the figure is great. It's like Mego is still producing these figures after all these years and just made a few production changes. I do wish the character name would have stayed in the form of the characters logo rather than just a standard normal font though.


I am so looking forward to the next wave of figures that comes out around Easter 2010. Since Mego fans like Paul Clarke helped Mattel design the new versions I know they are going to be just as great as Green Arrow. I am already counting the days until the Spring release. How about you?

Finally! I Ordered My Retro Action Green Arrow Today.

After being disappointed by the false release of the Mego inspired classic fabric clothed figures of the 70's and 80's, Green Arrow finally went on sale at MattyCollector.com today.

Just like the original, Green Arrow comes with a 8" body with removable fabric outfit, bow, and hat. The first in the new line is only available at Matty Collector with rest of the first wave arriving at Toys R Us and other retailers in the Spring.

Should have mine in a few days. Get yours while you still can.

No Retro Action DC Heroes Green Arrow Until December 23.

I just went to purchase my Retro Action Green Arrow from MattyCollector.com to find it will not be available until December 23 now. What a blow below the belt. Did I miss something? Wasn't it to be available on December 15 in time for Christmas?


The Retro Action Green Arrow is to be the first release of the "re imagined" Mego World's Greatest Super Heroes figures we loved so much as kid, and still do today. Mattel will release three waves of four heroes in each wave. The next four DC characters will released this Spring at Toy R Us and other retailers. The next four will be: Superman, Lex Luthor, Sinestro, and Green Lantern.

I guess I'll be up bright and early on the 23rd to try again.
