Vintage Mego Batman in Cool Pose

I was hunting around eBay for Batman collectibles tonight and came across this vintage Mego Batman action figure.

I have a boxed removable cowl version, and boxed and carded painted mask version (like the version seen here). Not to mention enough parts and costume pieces to assemble several loose versions.

I guess what caught my eye was the action pose he was posed within this case. I just thought it looked cool. Remember -- Place him in any action position!

Kapow! Superman Comic Book Back on Top

Over 3 million dollars has been spent on comic books over the past month. The thing is that the 3 million only bought 3 comic books.

First a copy of Action Comics #1 sold for a cool million back in February. Not only was this the first comic to reach the million dollar mark, Action Comics #1 was the first appearance of the Man of Steel, Superman.

Just three days later a copy of Detective Comics #27, which was the first appearance of Batman in 1939, sold for just over a million at $1.08 million.




Today Superman packs the old one two again with another issue of Action Comics #1 from 1938 selling for $1.5 million.

ComicConnect.com made both sales of the first appearance of Superman today and the one in February. The Batman comic that sold in February was sold at auction.

Ed Jaster, vice president of Heritage Auctions said, "This puts the hobby in a much greater light. People now have to think of vintage comics with the same kind of respect that they would with American paintings."

Man, I need to make more money.

The Dark Knight may be Superman's next greatest nemesis, after Lex Luthor.

Just three days after auction site ComicConnect.com claimed to break world records when it sold an original Superman comic for $1 million, Batman stole his thunder.

A rare, high-quality copy of Detective Comics #27, which marked the first appearance of Batman in 1939, sold for $1,075,000 on Thursday. Heritage Auctions of Dallas sold the comic book to an unnamed bidder on behalf of an anonymous collector.

According to MSNBC, the 1939 comic that contained Batman's debut topped Superman's selling price by $75,500. According to Greg Rohan, president of Heritage, "The buyer wanted to be extremely anonymous, but I can say he's a very serious comic book collector and has been since childhood."

OK. I admit it was me who bought it. As if. Man I really need to make more money if I ever want to own these someday. How about you? Would anyone shell out this kind of dough if they had the money to pay these kind of prices?

What Are the Most Valuable Comic Books?

As comic book lovers well know an original Action Comics #1 went for a cool million earlier this week. So if the first appearance of Superman is the most valuable comic book in the world, what would the runners up be?

The Telegraph has come up with a list to answer that question. This is what they estimate the top 10 comic would be worth in mint condition.

1. Action Comic #1 - $1,390,000
2. Detective Comics #27- $1,380,000
3. Superman #1 - $671,000
4. All-American Comics #16 - $430,000
5. Detective Comics #1 - $405,000
6. Marvel Comics #1 - $367,000
7. Batman #1 - $359,000
8. More Fun Comics #52 - 316,000
9. Flash Comics #1 - $289,000
10. Amazing Fantasy #15 - $280,000

Only two out of a 100 known surviving copies of Action Comics #1 are graded as Very Fine or better, which means odds are that mint copies will never be found.

Man if I only had 5 million or so. I guess I could always just jump in my Delorean and go pick up a few mint copies.

Action Comics #1 Sells For $1 Million

Since he started selling comic books at age 16, Vincent Zurzolo had only dreamt of selling a million-dollar comic book.

Monday was his lucky day. That was the day that Superman hit the jackpot.

"It is the single most important event in comic book history," said Zurzolo, who c0-owns auction site ComicConnect.com with founder Stephen Fishler.

The first comic book featuring the Man of Steel was a 1938 issue of Action Comics number one.

Most comic book or Super Hero fans would know the cover anywhere. It features Superman lifting a car on the cover and originally sold for 10 cents.

"When you look at what happened to real estate, the stock market and in banking, people are terrified. They're making no money in the banks, they're not sure about real estate, and the stock market is like playing roulette," Zurzolo said. "With comic books, they feel a lot more confident."

The copy is reportedly in better condition then its predecessor that sold for $317,000 last year.

"Now we've hit a point where you can lump us in with fine art," Zurzolo added.
