I have been waiting my whole life for these action figures to be released.
Actually, I think most Batman Fans and Toy Collectors have been. I like to think of these figures as vintage and have been lost since 1966 only to be found 47 years later.
I don't know if I have ever received these many boxes of toys in the mail in a week. August is '66 Batman month here at the Batcave Toy Room as the first of the long awaited Batman toys start to ship.
Vintage Mego Secret Identity Outfit Dick Grayson and Removable Mask Robin
Yes, Dick Grayson. Not Jason Todd, Timothy Drake, or the latest incarnation of John Blake, but the original Boy Wonder. Considered a Holy Grail for most Batman and Mego toy collectors alike, the Montgomery Ward 1974 Christmas Catalog Exclusive Secret Identity Outfit Dick Grayson is a favorite action figure of mine.

I was devastated to read over at the Bat-Blog today that there was a save the Retro-Action DC Super Heroes toys campaign and that Mattel has cancelled the super heroes action figure toy line. Actually, I feel ill. No, I think I am going to faint. Is there a Dr. Mego in the house?!
I love this line and have been religiously buying wave after wave of these Mego resurrected treasures. After all, it was the Mego World's Greatest Super Heroes toys that made me a toy fan to begin with. I have looked forward to what characters would released with each wave and had fun speculating what action figures were yet to be released. If you are a fan of these toys like I am, please go HERE and sign the petition to keep the line alive or at the least release them as Mattty Collector exclusives. Because my Batman needs a Robin.
A couple of weeks ago The Super Duper Toy Box posted the awesome score of a Turbo Glider Robin and Robin w/Launching Grappling Hook. So, I thought I would post my counterparts to these awesome action figures. I believe I received these two figures for my 27th birthday from my ex-wife's friend. I am always amazed how so many friends and family members have no idea what to get me for my birthday or holidays. It's easy folks...more toys. Most refer to me as the guy who as everything. That's simply not true. I guarantee there is something out there that I don't have. The world is a giant toy box.
Knight Glider Batman with Jet Wing Pack & Anti-Crime Cam
This Batman is part of The New Batman Adventures series and is molded after the animated TV version. The glider is really cool and as a strip that slides it to reveal different scenes involving Robin.
Notice the BE THE BATMAN CONTEST with a chance to win a $1,000,000. I never entered that contest and the peel and stick entry from is still firmly attached.
Triple Strike Robin with Multi Cannon Slinger
This Robin is part of the Batman & Robin series and one of the action figures created for toys related to the movie of the same name. The slinger comes with 3 different projectiles that resemble grappling hooks to me. Sort of like Batman's Batzooka from the TV series.
I have been working on my quest for a cowland have thought about walking down the Vegas Strip myself for fun, but this is totally uncool. Some tourist picking a fight with Batman and then body slamming him. This dude needs a serious dose of batarang. A lot of people don't like Robin, but if this guy had a sidekick, he would have some back up. Plus what's up with the citizens of Las Vegas not coming to the aid of Batman? I can't believe the Batman Live World Arena Tour is coming out in England first rather than the U.S. because this looks ultra cool. These TV commercials are popping up in England to start promoting this new show. It looks like Batman and Robin are going to have their hands full against the Joker, Catwoman, Penguin, Riddler, and Poison Ivy. The costumes look great and very movie like. I hope this is coming to America soon. I wonder if the actors have British accents?

In 1995, McDonald's released these four glasses to tie-in with the release of Batman Forever. I had only picked up The Riddler during the original release of the glasses. Don't remember why. I guess I ate healthier then and didn't go to Mcdonald's every week. Even to get all these glasses.

The other three glasses Batman, Robin, and Two Face, were given to me by a friend, who just so happened to have the 3 remaining glasses I needed. Check out the commercial featuring Batman and The Riddler. Did anyone else know these glasses were made in the Batcave?
There was also a hero sandwich served at McDonald's for a limited time to promote the movie as well. The sandwich had three beef patties, American and Monterrey Jack cheeses, tomatoes, lettuce, onion, and mayo. Man, it's making me hungry. Check out the promo below featuring Batman and Batmobile.
The Gals over at Girls Gone Geekposted this poster for the live action Bugs Bunny Meets the Super-heroes and I was immediately transported back to 1978. I remember my dad taking me to see this and it actually was shown at my high school auditorium. Eight years before I went to school there.
I don't remember much about what Bugs and his Looney Toon pals did. Other than them running around frantic when Batman and Robin were fighting with The Joker, Penguin, Riddler, and Catwoman. Wonder Woman was in it too, but I don't remember much of how she was involved. I do remember Chief O'Hara saying the Bat-signal didn't work or the bat-phone was down and had all the kids start yelling for Batman and Robin in hopes that they would hear. The Dynamic Duo did in fact hear us and came running down the center aisle.
I did take home a coloring book based on the show, but that was the only souvenir I received. There was a cool Batman mask available like the one Batman wore in the play, but unfortunately, I didn't get it.
That was an especially cool week for me as I also met Adam West and Burt Ward at an auto show that week. Those were some good times. For a look at a pic of the heroes on stage go HERE.
There is talk of director Christopher Nolan looking for another Gotham Girl. That girl is rumored to be Juno Temple and also rumored to be Robin, The Boy...I mean, Girl Wonder.
With Nolan already stating that Robin would not appear in any of the Batman films he directors this is definitely a rumor. At least the part of Temple playing Robin. But hey, I think a girl Robin could be hot.

We had previously reported that Joseph Gordon-Levitt was up for the part of The Riddler in the next Batman movie, but so far we may be half right as Gordon-Levitt has been added to the cast.
Some rumours out there are now saying that Joesph Gordon-Levitt is playing the part of Dick Grayson. Christopher Nolan has said before that they'll be no Robin as long as he is the director of a Batman movie and Christian Bale claims that if Robin is in, he's out. So, that doesn't mean we won't see Dick Grayson. Maybe just without a red vest and yellow cape.

Forty-five years ago on January 12 & 13, 1966 the Batman TV series premiered to record numbers. Thanks to Adam West and Burt Ward for bringing our favorite Dynamic Duo to life. It's been 45 years and the show is still airing and delighting Bat-fans around world. Just wish it was out on DVD darn it.
When you're hot, you're hot. So take advantage of it as much as you can. Like many actors, when fame hits you on TV or in the movies, actors give a shot at their singing skills. Soon as the first Batman TV series episode "Hi Diddle Riddle" aired, Frank Gorshin was definitely a household name. And just like Adam West's release of "Miranda" or Burt Ward's "Boy Wonder I Love You", Frank Gorshin gave a shot at his voice talents to cut an album named after the character that made him a household name, The Riddler. The song itself is pretty catchy and is very similar to the songs TVs Batman and Robin recorded. Take a listen.
