NBC Says "No" to Wonder Woman

Last night we finally got to see Tom Welling wear the old red, yellow and blue tights on the series finale of Smallville and I was looking forward to Adrianne Palicki donning Wonder Woman's short shorts in the Fall, but it looks like that isn't going to happen.

NBC has decided not to pick up the David E. Kelley version of Wonder Woman. Rumor has it the test audience wasn't hip on the updated version. Darn, I thought that was going to be my new show for next season. Sooner or later I am sure the pilot will pop on the Interenet. Well, there is always the Hulk, or has ABC pulled the plug on that too?

Anyone else disappointed?

Smallvile: Prophecy- Check out the Legion Doom

Last night's episode of Smallville gave a sneak peak look at the second to last episode "Prophecy" before the 2 hour series finale airing May 13.

Looks like there will be return of Suprgirl as well as, what looks to be the beginnings of The Legion of Doom. I can make out Captain Cold, Black Manta, and Solomon Grundy. Anyone have any idea who the others are?

Michael Rosenbaum WILL be Back on Smallville

Fans of Smallville have been waiting with high anticipation to see if Micahel Rosenbaum, who portrayed Superman's #1 villain for seven seasons, would be back for the series final season. After various reports that he would not, it has finally been confirmed that he will indeed be back for the two hour series finale.

Rosenbaum says he is "delighted" to be back on show. "I am simply doing it for the fans out there who made Smallville the great success it is," he said. "I appreciate all their passion, their relentlessness and even their threats. Ha ha. I can't wait to hug the old crew back in Vancouver one last time and see all my old friends once again... Oh, and for Lex to become the badass he's destined to be."

It definitely looks the series finale is going to be awesome. The two hour series finale of Smallville airs May 13.

Tom Welling to Finally Wear the Tights

No, Tom Welling is not wearing woman's clothes like Michael Rosenbaum did in Sorority Boys, but we've all been waiting to see Tom Welling wear the Superman suit for the past ten seasons of Smallville and we are finally going to see that happen.

With this being the final season of Smallville, Tom Welling will definitely get to wear the famous red, blue, and yellow costume. Question is, when? Most speculate it won't be until the last episode airs and others are hopeful it will happen before then. In the meantime, the CW has released this teaser poster (reminiscent of Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader from The Phantom Menace Teaser poster) of Welling's reflection revealing the Superman persona. I hope the end is more of a full view of the suit and not some quick glimpse. Stay tuned. The other half of Smallville's tenth and final season begins January 28, 2011.

Will Batman Go the Way of Wonder Woman and The Hulk?

With both The Hulk and Wonder Woman having TV pilots in the works, what will happen to The Dark Knight after the upcoming third Batman film? The next Batman movie: The Dark Knight Rises will undoubtedly be the last film in the series that Christopher Nolan will direct. This will probably also mean that Christian Bale will hang up the cowl as well.  So what will become of The Caped Crusader after 2012?

Rumor has it hat Warner Bros. wants to bring Batman back to the small screen just as Smallville is coming to a close and a new Superman film is in the works with Christopher Nolan producing. It's interesting to see things come full circle in a way. Originally, the producers of Smallville wanted to do Gotham and do a story about a young Bruce Wayne.  The story was changed to base the story on a young Clark Kent after Warner Bros wanted to re-boot the Batman film series. Holy flip flops!

Word is Karl Urban is being looked at to play Bruce Wayne. I thought Urban was great as Dr. McCoy in the new J.J. Abrams Star Trek film, but I am not sure I am sold on this. I think this is more like a case of "Dammit, Jim. I am a doctor, not crime fighter."

What do you think of Batman continuing as a TV series rather than a movie series?

The Music of DC Comics: 75th Anniversary Collection

My wife picked up a copy of "The Music of DC Comics: 75th Anniversary Collection" a couple of weeks off of Amazon for me and I have been enjoying it ever since. The CD includes 31 theme songs from DC's long line of comic book characters TV series and movies. This just isn't a bunch of re-done instrumental versions. These are the actual themes we all love from the TV series and movies. This is one of the best mixes of Super Hero themes I have heard in a long time. I love it so much I think it should have been a 2 disc CD. Wish The Challenge of the Super Friends, The Flash TV series, The New Adventures of Batman, and to many others to mention were part of this collection too. I put together a a semi sample of the CD below using the best copies a could find. Take a listen and hear for yourself this fine collection of music.

Smallville Gets a Tenth Season

After waiting patiently after hearing shows like The Vampire Diaries had been picked for the 2010-2011 season, the CW has finally announced Smallville will be back for season 10.

Here's The CW's official announcement:

"SMALLVILLE" TO RETURN FOR A TENTH SEASON ON THE CW

March 4, 2010 (Burbank, California) - The CW Network has announced that its hit series "Smallville" will return in the fall of 2010 for a momentous tenth season.

"Smallville," a modern retelling of the Superman legend, stars Tom Welling as Clark Kent. The Series moved to Friday nights this season, where it currently ranks as network television's #1 show in its period among men 18-34 and men 18-49. Additionally, "Smallville" has dramatically improved The CW's ratings performance in its Friday 8:00-9:00p.m. time period by 67% among adults 18-34 (1.5/6), 200% in men 18-34 (1.8/7), 75% in adults 18-49 (1.4/5), 18-49 (1.7/6) and 74% in total viewers (3.12 million).

"Smallville" joins the five previously announced series - "The Vampire Diaries," "Gossip Girl," "90210," "Supernatural" and "America's Next Top Model" - which will all return for another season on The CW.

"Smallville" was developed for television by Alfred Gough & Miles Millar ("Shangai Noon," "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor"), based on the DC Comics characters. Kelly Souders & Brian Peterson serve as executive producers, along with James Marshall, Mike Tollin, Brian Robbins and Joe Davola. The series is produced by Tollin/Robbins Productions, Millar/Gough Ink and Warner Bros. Television. SUPERMAN was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.

I can't get enough of this show. I just wish we would get to the point when Clark Kent becomes Superman, but that will probably never happen. I do hope however we see more kick ass episodes like "Absolute Justice" next season.

Smallville: Absolute Justice Was Full of Geek Greatness!

I can't help but think what a great job Geoff Johns did writing Smallville's most recent two episodes. It was absolutely full of Easter Eggs.

Everything from references to the Super friends, the troubalert, the Golden Age to the Silver Age (terms used to designate the change of Super Hero costumes and back stories) Golden Age events generally took place from the late 30's to late 40's and the Golden Age is a reference from 1956 to 1970.

Something else I thought was a nice touch was the addition of the original Red Tornado, Abigail Hunkel, was genius (although I did not know that there was a Golden Age version of the character until now). You can see a photo of the character below.

The character was actually very popular back in her day and was in the first adventure of the Justice Society of America, having a cameo and attempting to apply for membership into the JSA. Although she split her pants and she had to leave before completing her application the JSA made her an honorary member.

I would love to see more episodes like this, but I know budget restraints prevent that from happening. Also, the show is primarily about Superman, not the Justice League.

So what did everyone else think? Did you like the episodes? Let's hear from you.

Hawkman Returns to TV in Live Action Form

I am sure anyone who is a comic book super hero lover caught Smallville tonight. Even if you don't watch Smallville regularly I know you were watching tonight's episode since the Justice Society of America was a guest star.

Some of the members only received a cameo, but Hawkman, Dr. Fate, and Star Girl got the full treatment.

It was too cool seeing these characters in live action form. These days we usually only get to see our beloved heroes in animated form. The last time Hawkman had a live action appearance was in the Legends of the Super Heroes back in the 70's.

Other Smallville alumni like Black Canary and the Flash appeared in this two episode gig. The Legends of the Super Heroes also guest starred Adam West as Batman and Burt Ward as Robin. I remember being so excited when those originally aired, but watching them now I realize they were pretty bad. Nevertheless, it's still fun to watch.

I also loved the seeing the heroes in their actual costumes. Since the original Smallville gang are required to adhere to the "no tights, no flights" rule.

So what did you think of tonight's Smallville? Would you like to see more episodes like this one?

Smallville: Absolute Justice Airs This Friday February 5

I loved when Smallville has introduced other DC Comic characters on the show. Everyone from Green Arrow, Black Canary, Aquaman, Impulse, Cyborg, Zatanna and members of the Legion of Super-Heroes.

This weeks episode "Absolute Justice" is not only a two hour episode, but we get to see many members of the Justice Society. Not only do we get to see Hawkman, Stargirl and Dr. Fate, we get to see them in the costumes we love from the comics.

To take a line from Superman II, "Man, this is going to be good."
