Mattel's Classic Batman TV series toy line wave I |
I was skeptical about Mattel pulling the plug on their Classic Batman toy line since I was never able to find any official announcement from Mattel. I had either read it on other toy or Batman forums or people were commenting or emailing the Batcave Toy Room with the news, but a new bat signal is shining bright over all the Desmond Doomsday voiceovers.
Action Figure Insider has reported that Mattel is NOT done with the 1966 Batman Line! AFIs Daniel Pickett had a chance meeting with members of Mattel's boys retail team and while discussing Yvonne Craig finally signing a deal with Warner Brothers to use her likeness the topic of the Batman toy line came up.
According to the retail team the Classic TV 66 Batman stuff has been selling very well and they were confused as to why collectors thought the line was cancelled.
I think it's because there hasn't been any talk about what was next. Toy Figures Inc has already started previewing all the Batman TV series action figures they have coming. While Mattel's last entry was Catwoman (due for release on October 20th). However, the boys retail team stated, "That's all we have to announce at this time for 2013."
Will Mattel's Batman action figure line continue?
Will there be figures made in the likeness of Batgirl, Egghead, Bookworm, King Tut, and others?
Is this the ghastly end of the toy line we've waited so long to come to fruition?
One hint: The worst may be yet to come!
Are you happy the line may continue or were you hoping it would die a quick death?

I hope it's not over with! There are still so many other cool characters they need to do like King Tut, Egg-Head, False Face, Shame, ect. Heck i want to see a John Astin Riddler variant lol.
ReplyDeleteMe too John Boy. I want all of those and more. There are so many possibilities. Sadly, we probably won't see them all, but I'd take another wave at least.
DeleteI hope it continues for you guys!
ReplyDeleteThanks Hobby. Fingers and toes crossed.
DeleteI want Batgirl.
ReplyDeleteIronically, that statement also reflects how I feel about the Mattel '66 Batman action figures. So this is good news to me!
I would think at least Batgirl would be in the next wave now that Yvonne Craig has agreed to have her likeness used. It's very good news. Here's to what's come next year.
DeleteOh my God this is a gorgeous picture. Congrats on the acquisitions. I will consider my collection complete if I am able to have my Batgirl with Batcycle from the original series.
ReplyDeleteThank you sir. Yes, If we can get a Batgirl and Batgirl Cycle this next round, plus a surfing Joker and couple more villains, I'll survive without every possibility being met, but the more the merrier. Long live the Classic Batman TV series line.
DeleteVery happy the line is going to continue! Saw from NYCC, Mattell has on display, Surfs Up Joker. We will be able to reenact the great surfing competition episode.
ReplyDeleteMe too! Can't wait to see what else is coming next year.
DeleteI'm sure you've seen the NYCC images by now. No Batgirl shown yet, but there is a surfin' Joker!
ReplyDeleteOf course. At least we have that coming. There probably won't be a Batgirl in the next wave, but I am interested to see what else comes out along side the surfin' Joker.
DeleteI don't understand - after almost six months of waiting - why haven't we heard about any other figures in this line except for the surfing Joker?? How hard would it be for the jerks at Mattel to at least announce a Robin in his own package?? I would think the Batgirl and at least a Mr. Freeze would be given. There should also be a King Tut and an Egghead - but that may be wishful thinking.
ReplyDeleteC'mon reps from Mattel - if the line has sold so well - let's hear about the next wave coming!!!!!!!!
I agree I want a Batgirl Batgirl cycle and an.Olga Egghead twofer
ReplyDeleteYes, a Batgirl Cycle would be awesome! I would also love to see an Alfred, commissioner Gordon and Chief O'Harra along with perhaps variant Bruce Wayne, Dick Grayson and Barbara Gordon, Ertha Kitt and Julie Newmar Catwoman with removable masks. I think having a playset of the Batcave and of Barbara Gordan's apartment with rotating wall would be a lot to ask for but very KEWL if they were to pull them off!
ReplyDeleteIt would great if Mattel would release all of that. Those items seem to be on everyone's wish list. Let's hope there is a little bit of life left in this series.
