Regrets...I Have A Few

At times I actually drive my super cool, yet non-geek wife crazy.

"Unbelievable!", you say. I know...right.

However, the fact is it is true. There are probably a few things that drive her crazy about me, but one thing for sure is the fact that I generally won't buy something unless I absolutely love it.

I typically don't suffer from any kind of buyers remorse with any of my pop culture collectible purchases or any other for that matter and the reason is I'm not generally a spontaneous buyer.

There are times that I think to myself, that's cool, but if it just doesn't completely float my boat, I'm not buying it.

However, from time to time there are those few items that slip through the "love it" gate and I went ahead and bought anyway. Even though it was against my better judgment. One of those instances was when I bought my Hamilton Collection Star Trek Dolls.

Now I am a Star Trek fan. No where near the level of Star Wars fan that I am, but a fan nevertheless. I enjoy catching an episode of any of the incarnations of the original series, Next Generation, etc. and I also enjoy all the movies whether they are even or odd or even the J.J. Abrams versions, but I really don't collect many collectibles related to Gene Roddenberry's creation.

At the time I bought the Star Trek dolls there wasn't much in collectibles that had my interest and I might have been searching for something to fill the void that had been created by the absence of Kenner Star Wars and Super Powers lines. I absolutely loved Hamilton Collection's Star Wars Plate line and for some reason I thought I would love their Star Trek dolls as well.

I was wrong and it probably wasn't something that hit me in the beginning, but these ceramic dust collectors have been in their original shipping boxes since I've bought them. Not really ever being displayed and just stored away.

In 1988, I paid $75 a piece for these and back then that was a lot of money for me to be spending on these suckers. I remember thinking that I had to have them when Hamilton Collection offered them to me. Sending me the marketing literature that had me buy in like the sucker I was. I remember thinking that I could not afford the $75 price tag,  but where there is a will there is a way and I did find a way.

I've tried to sell these many times to no avail and it has me asking, do Star Trek collectors not like these either? They are made really well, but for whatever reason, they just don't seem to be popular.

In retrospect, I would have been better off putting the money in a mutual fund and could be buying all kinds of collectibles with what the return would now be. It is what it is, but if anyone is interested in taking these off my hands, let's make a deal. They have all of their accessories and are complete.

  2. I was talking to the guy i buy a lot if not most of my action figures and collectibles from recently and he was saying at lest for him Star Trek is hard to sell. I don't know if it's the traffic because he is a flea market vendor or not but i know he does online sells too along with Craig's List so it might be people love ST but it just doesn't move as well as Star Wars stuff which he says he can move much better.

    1. Yeah, I don't know if the market is oversaturated or these are just over priced. I'm going to try Craig's List and ultimately eBay to sell these. Thanks for the input John Boy.
