My Mego Shelf Is Feeling Kind Of Bare

Mego Shelves with a focus on the Holy Grail Batman's Wayne Foundation

Collect them all! Yes, I am working on it.

It's day 20 of my 31 Days to a Better Toy Collection Challenge and I've done just about all I can do with the Mego section of the toy room. This the surviving remnants out of all the Mego WGSH toys that I have had in my lifetime and this part of my collection needs some beefing up.

Soon as I finish obtaining the rest of the items on my list of 10 Star Wars toys that I want back in my toy collection, I will start working on my Mego wish list.

Here's a few items I want back in my World's Greatest Super Heroes collection.

  • Mobile Bat Lab
  • Batcycle
  • Batcopter
  • Hall of Justice
  • Die Cast Metal Hulk and Spider-Man

I probably won't start pursuing these toys until I finish my Star Wars wish list. However, I need to decide if I want to search for the original or just pick up the replica's that are coming from Figure Toy Company.

Would you only go for the originals to keep the collection vintage or settle for the replica's coming soon?

  1. Wow! That is an impressive shelf. To each his own, but I'd be putting these guys in the glass-fronted cabinets. ;)

    Good luck with the hunt!

    1. Thanks Brian. Originally, they were in those cabinets, but as usual I wasn't satisified how they looked in them.

    1. We'll see what happens Hobby. They have to actually release them first. I'll have to see what comes my way between then and now.

  3. Hmmm that's a hard choice I guess if can afford it go with the originals but if the repos are good and more affordable(and easier to find)go with them.

    1. We'll have to see JBoy. With the figures going for $25 a piece I have a hunch the vehicles and playsets could be pricey. However, original Mego's can definetly go for a lot more.

    1. Thanks Colin. I'm happy with the display itself. I just have a lot more toys from that line that I want to add to the collection.

  5. I would go with Repos if your taking them out to display and maybe have the carded originals behind the repos on the shelf.

If it was up to me and cash wasn't a concern, I would opt for the originals. As a Mego-head, I would want the originals anyday.

I see you have one of my holy grails (The Wayne Foundation). Jealous! Are you rebuilding it?

    1. In the long run that is probably what will happen. My biggest concern is there is going to be a lot of con-artists out there trying to pass the replicas for the originals and I may need to concentrate getting the originals now.

My Wayne Foundation was a rebuild and it is now pretty much complete. For the most part it is my original playset, but my Dad had cleaned out my parents garage years ago, which is a story I have told on many occasions, and he threw out many of my toys. Pretty much anything that was cardboard was trashed and that included the back drops and flooring for this playest. Ironically, he kepts the girders and furntinure, but I was able to find what I needed on eBay to replace those pieces.
