Guy Gardner Green Lantern Matty Collector Retro-Action DC Super Hereos Exclusive # 2

The postman cameth and as promised here are pics of my Guy Gardener. The second release of Matty Collector's exclusive Green Lantern Retro-Action DC Super Heroes.

As usual the Matty Collector exclusive action figure came in an exclusive (no pun intended) special box with the characters name stenciled on the front.

Next to my Captain Cold this runner up to Hal Jordan is probably one of my favorites in terms to the details of the figure.

The figure is comic book accurate from leather jacket, belt and right down to his boots.

Look at that smirk. Even a vintage Mego Mr. Mxyzptlk would be jealous.

Guy Gardner also includes a power battery, which is the same mold found with the original Green Lantern from wave I and Sinestro figures.

I love being able to buy directly from Matty Collector, but I have a couple of issues which seems to be a problem with the exclusive packages these figures come in. Although, I didn't have this problem with Sinestro in Sinestro Corp outfit, I did have a problem with creasing and bending of the blister cards of both my Green Arrow and Guy Gardner.

I do have several examples of loose toys, but once I have them mint in box, I tend to like to keep them way. The exclusive boxes seem to be a little to tight and possibly the care in which figures is placed in the box is lax. With the cost of the shipping what it is, it makes this to be a little bit of an expensive collectible to not come in a mint box. It does leave me a little perturbed, but over all the figure is awesome and is a welcome addition to the collection.

Next month John Stewart. On sale June 15!

Batman Gets Beat Up in Las Vegas

I have been working on my quest for a cowl and have thought about walking down the Vegas Strip myself for fun, but this is totally uncool. Some tourist picking a fight with Batman and then body slamming him. This dude needs a serious dose of batarang. A lot of people don't like Robin, but if this guy had a sidekick, he would have some back up. Plus what's up with the citizens of Las Vegas not coming to the aid of Batman? Check out Fox's coverage of the story HERE. Just not cool.

Star Wars Day at Disneyland

Star Tours re-opens at Disneyland in California on June 3. The original ride opened in 1987 and I remember it like yesterday. Of course I still have the travel poster of the planets from the Star Wars Universe that were available in the Star Tours gift shop over twenty years ago.

The new ride will include 54 different scenarios. So, you will unlikely get the same ride twice. Unfortunately, the ride was still being revamped when I was there, but gives me the perfect excuse to make another trip when it does open. Here's a sneak peek below.

Although, Star Tours was not re-opened I was able to head over to the Lego store in downtown Disney. I ventured over to the Star Wars section, which had these Lego's along with the current Batman versions they currently sell, I would have been in complete bliss if these had been available when I was a kid.

Here's a look at some of the awesome displays they had of the Star Wars Lego sets.

Me Chillin' with Vader. I know what you're thinking. Man that dude is big (Vader I mean)

Imperial Shuttle
Death Star
Enough power to destroy an entire planet
The Lego sets a really cool, but a little too expensive for my blood, but who can put a price on bliss? Still had an awesome time as usual and besides The Batcave Toy Room, Disneyland is definitely the happiest place on Earth.

Chewbacca Bento Box

My nephew sent me this pic of Chewbacca made of noodles and had to post it out of blue. Makes me hungry for some Chewie Chow-Mein.

Well, here is it folks. The supposed costume to be worn in the Wonder Woman pilot finale has finally been revealed. Here is what Adrianne Palicki would have looked like as Wonder Woman in her short, shorts. We like short, shorts. How about you?

Vintage Batman's Wayne Foundation Playset By Mego 1977-1979

Batman's Wayne Foundation, the creme de la creme with a show with everything but Yul Brynner. Here is a look at another one of my Batcave playsets. This playset is considered the grand-daddy of them all amongst toy collectors. Mego's Wayne Foundation is very much in comparison to Kenner's Death Star playset simply for the sure size of that thing. Standing 4 feet tall fully assembled this sucker is huge.

Mego's toy catalog described it as four floors of fantastic, crime fighting fun! Over 40" tall, this power packed playset is perfect for use with Mego's Batman heroes and villains.

The Dynamic Duo will love to hop into the kid-powered moving elevator...

Dash to the computer console...(Very cool that the Batcomputer predicted that there would eventually be a Green Lantern action figure. Only took about 30 years)

Plan terrific crime busting adventures...

Complete with furniture, trophy case, and book case with secret compartment.

Only Batman could have designed it. Actually DC Comics designed it for Mego and although it is dubbed the Wayne Foundation, it is basically four floors of all the different areas of the Batcave. In the comics, the Wayne Foundation Building had a Batcave underneath the building, which Batman moved his headquarters there after Robin went to college.

Check out the commercial below before some final product changes, which obviously came afterward. The computer console and chairs were silver rather than blue, and the other furniture had silver trim as well. Giving those items a more metallic look than just blue plastic. There is also what looks to me as clear plastic piece that goes over what I have always referred too as a desk, but to me it appears as it was meant as an actual trophy case.

You can check out the cool proto-type at The Mego Museum HERE.

Vintage Slave I from Kenner 1981-1983

He's all yours bounty hunter. Actually, this sweet ride, the Slave I, is technically all mine, but who's going to argue with the galaxies most fearsome bounty hunter. Kenner released Boba Fett's ship as part of the second wave of toys from their Empire Strikes Back line. The second wave of toys from the fifth movie (or second, depending on your point of view) of the Star Wars films in my opinion was the best. Not only because of this ship, but it also included the awesome AT-AT in that wave as well.

Slave I did not have any electronic features such as lights or sounds like other vehicles in the toy line, but it did have some cool features here and there.

It had a prisoner detention unit or as Boba Fett said in the movie "Put Captain Solo in the cargo hold."

A rear loading ramp to board the ship. Watch your head (If you're a Fett or a clone that is).

No lights or electronic sounds for the cannons, but they do make a clicking sound.

Wings are gravity operated. So, they move as the ship does and can be trigger lock to be held in the position you want them to be in while in flight.

Best of all, Slave I came with a carbonite frozen Han Solo. This was my absolute favorite part of the toy (there I go with freezing fetish again). My dream collectible next to a 1966 replica Batmobile is the frozen Han Solo replica, but since it's $5,000 so this minature version will do for now.

All and in all, Kenner did a great job at the time of re-creating Boba Fett's ship and holds some great memories from my childhood.

TV Commerical Video of Batman Live World Arena Tour

I can't believe the Batman Live World Arena Tour is coming out in England first rather than the U.S. because this looks ultra cool. These TV commercials are popping up in England to start promoting this new show. It looks like Batman and Robin are going to have their hands full against the Joker, Catwoman, Penguin, Riddler, and Poison Ivy. The costumes look great and very movie like. I hope this is coming to America soon. I wonder if the actors have British accents?

If you are going to be in England this Summer and want to check this out to BatmanLive.com for tickets.

The Dark Knight Rises Goes Live with the First Pics of Bane

The Dark Knight Rises website has gone live at TheDarkKnightRises.com. There the first pic of Tom Hardy as Bane, the villain who broke Batman's back, has been posted.

I think Bane looks kind of cool, but I think Reis over at Hey, Look at my Toys could have given Tom Hardy a run for his money. He even could have brought his own wardrobe. Just messing around Reis. ;-)

Anyway, what do you think of the first look at Bane?

McDonald's Batman Forever Collectible Glasses 1995

In 1995, McDonald's released these four glasses to tie-in with the release of Batman Forever. I had only picked up The Riddler during the original release of the glasses. Don't remember why. I guess I ate healthier then and didn't go to Mcdonald's every week. Even to get all these glasses.

The Riddler

Two-Face

Batman

Robin
The other three glasses Batman, Robin, and Two Face, were given to me by a friend, who just so happened to have the 3 remaining glasses I needed. Check out the commercial featuring Batman and The Riddler. Did anyone else know these glasses were made in the Batcave?

There was also a hero sandwich served at McDonald's for a limited time to promote the movie as well. The sandwich had three beef patties, American and Monterrey Jack cheeses, tomatoes, lettuce, onion, and mayo. Man, it's making me hungry. Check out the promo below featuring Batman and Batmobile.

Have you had your break today?

NBC Says "No" to Wonder Woman

Last night we finally got to see Tom Welling wear the old red, yellow and blue tights on the series finale of Smallville and I was looking forward to Adrianne Palicki donning Wonder Woman's short shorts in the Fall, but it looks like that isn't going to happen.

NBC has decided not to pick up the David E. Kelley version of Wonder Woman. Rumor has it the test audience wasn't hip on the updated version. Darn, I thought that was going to be my new show for next season. Sooner or later I am sure the pilot will pop on the Interenet. Well, there is always the Hulk, or has ABC pulled the plug on that too?

Anyone else disappointed?

Vintage Batcave Playset by Mego 1974-1977

Here's a look at one of Mego's many Batman related toys, the Batcave. It was brought to my attention that I have a toy blog with "Batcave" in the title, nonetheless, and I haven't discussed a single one of my Batcave toys. Geez! Well, better late than never.

The Bat-signal! This used to be one of my favorite parts of this playset. It really worked and would shine a bat symbol on to any surface. Mego originally wanted to sell it separately from the playset, but toy stores scoffed at Megos cheapness at its introduction at the Toy Fair. Mego quickly decided to sell it with this playset.

Bruce and Dick with characteristic speed and resolve descend promptly to the Batcave...

And then as they have done many times before as Batman and Robin...

Courageous warriors against crime, they are off once again to the rescue...We can see here on the Bat Computer that the Joker is once again up to no good.

"Atomic batteries to power. Turbines to speed."

The Batmobile races out the secret entrance. Good thing Gotham City is only 14 miles away. Hmmmm...Always seemed like they arrive at police headquarters in seconds.

Although the TV series had two Bat Poles there was only one inlcuded with the Batcave playset. There was also a landing platform for the Batcopter.

Mego made tons of stuff for Batman, but the one thing they didn't was the Batboat, but at least they did include it the Batcave.

According to Mego's product catalog the Batcave was "built to accommodate all the Bat Vehicles" and according to the instructions is 3 feet long when fully assembled. The playset itself is vinyl wrapped cardboard and included a cardboard Bat Computer and wooden Bat Pole as shown above. A plain vinyl sheet was used to represent the floor of the Batcave. The vinyl sheet came in blue, green, and brown. The Batcave also came in two different box sizes as well.
